Why Fear Death
Oh! Why do we fear when death draws nigh
Why ask for lengthened life,
This worl’s so full of sighs and tears
Of trouble care and strife.
Sometimes I see my skies all blue
My path all strewn with flowers,
But ere the eventide, the darken sky
And wear drags the hours
Sleep little one, sleep on
Far from thee, be every pain,
Far from thee each care
God himself smiles down on thee
And watches everywhere.
The pinion eagle longs to soar
Up in the azure skies,
But his feathers bind him to the earth
So he pines away, and dies.
Weep Not
Weep not for the days that’s vanished
Brace right up and force a smile,
Soon you’ll find the bitters leaving
You can bear it for awhile.
Sometimes life’s a tangled jungle
Rocks and briars, mile on mile,
You just keep a trudging onward
You’ll find roses after while.
When the sun is in the sky
You can smile if you will try,
But when the clouds shut out the sun
Smiling isn’t any fun.
