Letter 18901207
At Sister Olive’s
Leon, Iowa
Dec. 7th 1890
To the family in general,
Kind Uncle, Aunt & Cousins,
It has been some time since I rec’d your last letter dated Nov. 13 was rec’d the 23rd of the same. Was real glad to hear from you & to know that you were all well. This morning finds us all well & I trust this may find you all well. The Brothers & Sisters are most all well. Priscilla so I have understood recently has been very sick with asthma. She has been affected some time with that complaint. I heard from aunt & uncle George Dickson recently. In health they were much the same as they have been for some time. The rest of the relatives in Missouri are all well. You asked me where I was going & when. I can’t exactly tell you as I thought I would have been gone before this time when I last wrote you. But I will just say , if nothing prevents, I expect to spend Christmas with Uncle George and Aunt Lizzie Dickson, then from there I expect to go too Oregon. Out to where Bro. J. T. is. I don’t hardly expect to be in the east for some time again, unless I change my mind from what it is now. So don’t look for me untill you see me comeing.
I have not heard from Hattie yet in answer to the letter that I wrote to her long ago. Just tell her it is all right with me if she don’t want to write to me. I will save stamps by it.
Well I was some what surprised to hear of Cora’s getting married so soon, but I recon that she wanted a man. Next time you see her ask her when she heard from “Nan” last. I will not write her again untill she writes me & Alfred Wilson. I wrote him long ago & he has failed to answer. But it is all right if they don’t want to write to me, they don’t have too.
A protracted meeting is in progress now at the near school house held by the M. E. Society. I haven’t attended any yet & in other words don’t expect too. I don’t belong to any church now. When I settle down again I will make a choice & probably will join some society but can’t tell what one it will be. You no doubt think that I am a luff. I expect some think so.
Well lets say no more about this as it makes me feel sad & with an aching heart. Friends I don’t enjoy life as I did when I was with you last fall. no doubt you know the reason to some extent. “yes, that is the reason.”
The weather at present is exceedingly cold yet is real nice for the time of year. Have had but little snow as yet. I seen the photo of Uncle Geo. & aunt Jane that they sent to “Bro Henry.” I think it real nice. Tell them I would like one if they don’t cost to much. I told Bro J. H. what you said about the pictures. He did say he would or would not.
The farmers are most all done gathering corn. A. N. Arney finished last Monday. He had near four thousand bushell. He snapped most all. He is feeding one car(?) of cattle and near that of hogs. Corn here is selling all the way from 35 o 45 cts. & some higher fat hogs are very low 2 ½ to 3 ¼. But fair prospects of being better after while.
Well I have written all of importance so I will close by asking you to write soon. I remain as ever your affectionate nephew and cousin,
F. O. Delk
