LETTER 18871030
Weldon, Iowa
Oct. 30th, 87
My Dear Cousin,
I received your ever welcome letter. Was pleased very much to hear from some of our unknown relatives of which we have ever hoped to meet. Papa is writing to Grandpa. You spoke about him enjoying him self. We are all pleased to know that he is. And would like to see him. It seems like a long time since we seen him last but has not been long. But dear Grandma it seems lonesome with out her. She was so good. It seemed as though we could not spare her but she needed rest. I stayed with her so much. Was the only grand daughter that did. Uncle Nan and Ell were here last Sunday. They were doing nicely with out a cook. Ma bakes bread and does their washing for them. I suppose G.P. (Grandpa) told you who little Johny is. He is going to school. Has gone every day but one. He likes it very well. The little fellow gets tired walking. We have three quarters to go. I am going to school to. We have a very good teacher. Her name is Miss Anna Smallwood. There is only eight scholars. The most of the tome my little brother Ira and sister Meda go. Ira is the baby. He is ten and Meda is twelve. Frank 20, Ida 16 and I am 17. Not very large. Ida is large like mother. She weighs 135 lbs. Large of her age. I was to see Aunt Lillie last Sunday. She is well and would like to hear from Grandpa. She has five little boys. Ida got a letter from Nellie Delk, Uncle Solomon’s girl. They were all well and would like to see G.P. Ida and Frank have gone to church. I did not go. Was going horseback but Frank did not have time to get the horse. We live four miles from church. Weldon is where we go. It is quite cold now. Ma has a great many house plants but they never freeze. We have a fine garden in the summer. So many kinds of plants. Grandma was a great lover of flowers. Her garden was always nice. You spoke about us spending the winter with you. I should enjoy it ever so much I know but could not possibly do so. When G.P. comes home some of your sisters or brothers (if you have any) or you might come with him. We would all enjoy your coming ever so much. I will close for this time. Hoping to hear from you again and some more of the cousins. Ma sends her love to all. She said tell your ma she remembered her well. Excuse my writing material please. Could not write to a new cousin very well for the first time.
Every your cousin, Kate Worden
