Figured out how to get something to work in CSS, so now the Document section is working. I posted Fernandis Orien’s obituary. This is a learning process for me since CSS is not my normal cup of tea, but I am getting the hang of it. I just now need to make the dates of the letters into columns and I will be happy. It should be easy to do and it will look nicer. I have been having an internal debate with myself about the photos. Part of me wants to dust bust all of the photos and have them look as good as the day they were taken. The other part of me is realistic, and I know this is not a feasible task. So what I am going to do is split this down the middle. I will continue to scan at a high bit rate, fix the color cast’s in the photos and them look presentable, and move on. If at anytime someone wants a print of one, or when I have time, then I will fix it up. But for now, I just want to get them posted.

New Photos

New photos are posted. They are of John Delk, George Washington Delk, John Henry Delk, Elmer Delk, Theodore Delk, Fernandis Delk, Priscilla Delk, Franklin Delk, Charles Wesley Delk, Sarah (Delk) Maitlen, and her daughters, Martha and Harriette. Speaking of the Maitlens, I will be working on that line this week. For those who do not know, my Great-grandfather, Elmer, married his first cousin, Martha. Martha’s mother, Sarah (Delk) Maitlen, is John Delk’s sister. And no, I do not have an unnatural tick because my Great-grandparents are first cousins. To help visualize all of this, I am working on a descendant chart for all of the family members. I will also start adding a third category, documents, such as obituaries, newspaper articles and similar items.
If anyone is having problems with any of the pages, or if you notice some mistakes, please drop me a line at delkbrian@earthlink.net. And to add to that, if you have anything you want posted, let me know and I will get it put in.
Letters update and correction

I have now finished, for now, updating letters between the various family members. A picture is starting to form on how close knit the family was. Fernandis, or Nan, Theodore, and Elmer traveled west and back. Theodore’s son died at an early age. And the girl’s wrote about romance. I also stand corrected about having pictures of all of Ethelred’s children. We do not have one of Isaac or Isabelle. Isaac died in 1864, so it is doubtful we will ever find one of him, and Isabelle we can not make a definite identification. On the other hand, we have one of all of John’s children.
Speaking of photos, now that I have batch of letters done, I am now going to start on some photos and setting up a second family, The Maitlen’s, who would be my Great-grandfathers wife, Martha Maitlen. They were also kissing cousins. More on that later.

Mary (Delk) Beanblossom photo is updated. I hope I am correct in saying this, but I believe we have at least one photo of all of Ethelred’s children. I need to check that. Letters are also updated.

Revised site is up!

After nine years of my same old, mundane, generic family genealogy site, I have decided to revise and update it. As I was doing this I realized that I really never updated my site. I just sort of put it together and then walked away from it. And it showed. But this time it will be different. My dad and I are working together to tell the story of the Delk Family and those who were and are a part of it. He will be doing the writing while I will be doing the multimedia. Everyone’s input is welcomed. And please leave some tidbits about your own research into your Family History. Personally, I think I had information overload. With everything that was available and becoming available on the web, I found myself overwhelmed and not knowing where to begin. Genealogy is not for the easily intimidated.
Right now, not everything is up and working correctly. I also only have one family showing. My goal is to have both of my parents and my wife’s side as well. I look forward to sharing everything with everybody and hopefully will be able to have good discussions with anyone else who is diving into the world of genealogy.
Happy New Year,
Brian
