You know when you are told to back things up before you upgrade? and you ignore that advice and just plunge ahead. Well that is what I did, which is why there have not been any posts lately. I am almost completely back and running at 100%. I have updated a few people, Lillie Delk for one, but nothing significant yet. But, I am back and will have more updates later this week. Brian
Descendant Chart Update
June 14th, 2010 § Comments Off on Descendant Chart Update § permalink
I have now updated part of the Descendant Chart. Now, when you go to John Delk’s children, you can click on them and see their descendants. I have all of the png’s for this on an FTP site if anyone wants them to print out. Please send an email to photos@familyhistoria.com, and I will get you a password to get in. This is also a great way to exchange pictures if you want some posted or a higher res. picture for printing. Remember, the Descendant Chart is an Adobe Shockwave file, you need the plug-in, (see earlier post). It is also 6mb in size, so give it a minute or two to load. I made it huge so you can read the names, may change it later.

Charlie Delk and Family, (sort of)
June 1st, 2010 § Comments Off on Charlie Delk and Family, (sort of) § permalink
I have now updated Charles Wesley Delk with photos, and have included his wife, Bernice Butler with photos for her. You can only get to her from Charles page. I will be adding some documents to their site as well later in the week. I am still waiting to find out about adding their children to the site.
In other news, I am starting to work with the city of Pleasant Hill on a history project showing the growth of the city and also what the future may hold. I have a photo that I want to add to the site showing a corn field that was taken from Highway 163, the area is now developed with houses and businesses. Would like to get people to sit down and interview to talk about how the city has changed over the past 50 years. This will be an on going project that I hope will get people interested in the history that is around them and that they to will become involved.

Your Photos
May 24th, 2010 § Comments Off on Your Photos § permalink
I have been contacted by several family members about posting some of their family photos on this site, and I am all for it. I have set-up an ftp site for people to send me photos, this way they can be hi-res scans and not clog up my email. If you have something that you would like to share, please contact me at photos@familyhistoria.com, and I will get you set up. Also with that, if you have some slides, photos, negatives or something else that needs to be scanned or restored, let me know and we can work something out.
I am also putting up photos from Uncle Thede’s photo album book that he gave to his niece, Mary May Delk. Some are of him, and others are of John and Sara Delk, his brothers and his cousins. I am also ready to pull the trigger on Charles Wesley page and add photos and documents of him and his family, I am just waiting for permission to include his living children.

New Documents, Photos, Poems and Bio
May 11th, 2010 § Comments Off on New Documents, Photos, Poems and Bio § permalink
I have uploaded a biography of George Washington Delk, written by his son, dictated by GW. Elmer and Martha’s obituary are now posted as well as some poem’s that Martha had written during World War I. Some photos of Franklin Elsworth Delk before he left for the War are on-line and one of Solomon Bennet Delk, date unknown, is also posted.
Remember to give everything time to load. I am trying to keep everything below 3mb in size, but if you do not have high-speed internet, it will take a few minutes. If anyone wants a photo at a higher resolution for printing, please let me know and I will give you a separate download link.

Slight Delay
May 4th, 2010 § Comments Off on Slight Delay § permalink
Quick update, just so everyone knows what is going on. My real job has kept me fairly busy this month, which is good for me, but bad for this site. I have however scanned a book full of photos and documents, and in the next few weeks will be updating quite a bit. I could just upload everything and call it good, but I am cleaning up a lot of these scans. The documents are faded and the photos, (not all) are in need of some help. I know I said I woudn’t do this, but in the long run it looks much better.
Dad and I are hoping to get away long enough to get some photos of John Delk’s gravesite and maybe make some other stops as well. Hopefully this will happen sooner or later. Again, please check back in the next few days for updates.
Maitlen side of the family
April 1st, 2010 § Comments Off on Maitlen side of the family § permalink
I have added a section for the Maitlen side of our family. I will need to add hyper links between them and the Delk side, but for now, you can get over to the Delk side by going through Sara or Martha on the Maitlen side. I will soon be adding some photos.
In other news, Uncle Bob Delk passed away on Saturday. Naturally, I learned some things about him at his funeral, most notably, that while in the Navy, he was awarded the Purple Heart three times. This brings me to the topic of adding family members to the Delk side. It has been suggested that I add my Father and his siblings, if I receive an unanimous consensus from all, then I will go ahead and add everybody. Until, get outside and enjoy the Spring weather.
Letters and Descendant Chart
March 12th, 2010 § Comments Off on Letters and Descendant Chart § permalink
There is a new batch of letters out, mostly between F.O., Elmer and Elmer’s new wife Martha. We are now up to the year 1894.
I have also added a Descendant Chart. It is in the Adobe Shockwave format. Right now it only has Ethelred and his children. When you click on one of Ethelred’s children, you will see their direct line. Clicking on Ethelred will take you back to the beginning. This is a work in progress. If you have more info than I do please let me know and I will update the chart.
Here is a direct link to the chart: Ethelred Descendant Chart
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. If your computer can not support Shockwave, I will send you the graphic files.
First Document, techie stuff

Figured out how to get something to work in CSS, so now the Document section is working. I posted Fernandis Orien’s obituary. This is a learning process for me since CSS is not my normal cup of tea, but I am getting the hang of it. I just now need to make the dates of the letters into columns and I will be happy. It should be easy to do and it will look nicer. I have been having an internal debate with myself about the photos. Part of me wants to dust bust all of the photos and have them look as good as the day they were taken. The other part of me is realistic, and I know this is not a feasible task. So what I am going to do is split this down the middle. I will continue to scan at a high bit rate, fix the color cast’s in the photos and them look presentable, and move on. If at anytime someone wants a print of one, or when I have time, then I will fix it up. But for now, I just want to get them posted.
